AnassociationofseveralHLAalleleswithmyastheniagravis(MG)hasbeenreported.AimofthisworkwastoanalyzetheHLA allelepro?leinasurveyof76unselectedItalianMGpatientsandinasubgroupcharacterizedbydiseaseonsetaftertheageof 50years,absenceofthymoma,andpresenceofantiacetylcholinereceptorantibodies.Wede?nedthissubgroupbytheacronym LOAb.TypingwasperformedatlowresolutionforHLA-A,-B,and-DRB1lociwithsequence-speci?coligonucleotideprobe(PCR- SSO);athighresolutionforHLA-DQB1locusbyPCRwithsequence-speci?cprimers(PCR-SSPS).HLAallelefrequencieswere comparedwith100healthycontrols.NocorrelationwasobservedbetweenMGandthestudiedHLAclassIalleles.Onthecontrary, astrongpositiveassociationwasfoundfortheHLAclassIIallelesDQB1 ? 05:02(Pc =0.00768)andDRB1 ? 05:02andsomesubtypesofMGhasbeenpreviously 05:02 might be considered as a 16(Pc =0.0211)in theLOAbsubgroup(n =27)ofMGpatients.AssociationbetweenDQB1 ? r
