Biosorption experiment from aqueous solutions containing known amount of rare earth elements (REEs) using pre-treated Buccinum tenuissimum shell was explored to evaluate the e?ciency of shell biomass as sorbent for REEs. In this work, four kindsofsievedshellsamples:(a)“Groundoriginalsample”,(b)“Heat-treatment(480 C,6hours)sample”,(c)“Heat-treatment ? (950 ? ? C,6hours)sample”and(d)“Heat-treatment(950 C,6hours)andwateraddedsample”wereused.Furthermore,tocon?rm thecharacteristicsoftheshellbiomass,thecrystalstructure,thesurfacemorphology,andthespeci?csurfaceareaoftheseshell samplesweredetermined.Consequently,thefollowingmattershavebeenmainlyclari?ed.(1)Thecrystalstructureoftheshell biomasswastransformedfromaragonite(CaCO3)intocalcite(CaCO3)phasebyheat-treatment(480 transformedintocalciumoxide(CaO)byheat-treatment(950 C,6hours),andcalciumhydroxide(Ca(OH)2)byheat-treatment C,6hours)andaddingwater.(2)Theshellbiomassshowedexcellentsorptioncapacityforlanthanides.(3)Adsorption isothermsusingtheshellbiomasscanbedescribedbyLangmuirandFreundlichisoth
