TheproductionofathermostableandhighlyalkalinepectinasebyBacilluspumilusdcsr1wasoptimizedinsolid-statefermentation (SSF) and the impact of various treatments (chemical, enzymatic, and in combination) on the quality of ramie ?bres was investigated.Maximumenzymetiter(348.0± 11.8Ug?1 DBB)inSSFwasattained,whenamixtureofagro-residues(sesame oilseedcake,wheatbran,andcitruspectin,1:1:0.01)wasmoistenedwithmineralsaltsolution(aw0.92,pH9.0)atasubstrate- to-moisteningagentratioof1:2.5andinoculatedwith25%of24holdinoculum,in144hat40 C.Parametricoptimization ? inSSFresultedin1.7-foldenhancementintheenzymeproductionascomparedtothatrecordedinunoptimizedconditions.A 14.2-foldhigherenzymeproductionwasattainedinSSFascomparedtothatinsubmergedfermentation(SmF).Thetreatment withtheenzymesigni?cantlyimprovedtensilestrengthandYoung’smodulus,reductioninbrittleness,rednessandyellowness, andincreaseinthestrengthandbrightnessoframie?bres. 1.Introduction offruitjuicesandwines[17,18],whilealkalinepectinases ?ndapplicationsintextileindustryforrettingofplant?bres, manufactur
