Ang-(1–7)isproducedviadegradationofAngIIbythehumanangiotensinconvertingenzyme,alsoknownasACE2.Inthe cardiovascularsystem,Ang-(1–7)hasbeenshowntoproducee?ectsthatareoppositetothoseofAngII.Theseincludesmooth musclerelaxationandcardioprotection.WhiletherolesofAng-(1–7)inothersystemsarecurrentlytopicofintenseresearch, functionaldatasuggestarelaxationactioningastrointestinalsmoothmusclesinawaythatcorroboratestheresultsobtainedfrom vasculartissues.However,morestudiesarenecessarytodeterminearelevantroleforAng-(1–7)inthegastrointestinalsystem.
