The main results give conditions on an orientation-preserving homeomorphism α of the real line that ensure the following: if b belongs to a certain class of oscillat- ing matrix functions (periodic, almost periodic, or semi-almost periodic matrix functions) and the Toeplitz operator generated by the matrix function b(x) is semi-Fredholm, thentheToeplitz operator withthematrixsymbol b(α(x)) isalso semi-Fredholm. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classi?cation: 47B35, 42A75, 46J15, 47A53, 47A68, 47B33. 1. For a function a∈L∞(R), the Toeplitz operator T(a) is the bounded linear operator on H2(R)that acts by the rule f P(af).The function aisinthis contextreferredtoasthesymboloftheoperator T(a). The algebra AP(R) of almost periodic functions is de?ned as the smallest closed subalgebra of L∞(R)that contains the set {eλ:λ∈R},where eλ(x)= eiλx.We denote byP (R)the set of all T-periodic functions in AP(R)and by T C(R)thesetofallcontinuousfunctionsf onRthathave?niteone-sidelimits f(?∞)andf(+∞)atin?nity.Finally,thesmallestclosedsubalgebraofL∞(R) thatcontains AP(R)∪C(R)isdenoted bySAP(R)andiscalled thealgebra of semi-almost periodicfunctions.
