Background.Acutehypo-andhyperglycemiacausescognitiveandpsychomotorimpairmentinindividualswithtype1diabetes mellitus(T1DM)thatmaya?ectsportsperformance.Objective.Toquantifythee?ectofconcurrentandantecedentbloodglucose concentrationsonsportsskillsandcognitiveperformanceinyouthwithT1DMattendingasportscamp.Design/Methods.28youth (ages6–17years)attendingasportscampcarriedoutmultipleskill-basedtests(tennis,basketball,orsoccerskills)withglucose monitoringover4days.Glucoselevelsatthetimeoftestingwerecategorizedas(a)hypoglycemic(3.6mM);(b)withinan acceptableglycemicrange(3.6–13.9mM);or(c)hyperglycemic(13.9mM).Results.Overall,sportsperformanceskillwas～20% lowerwhenglucoseconcentrationswerehypoglycemiccomparedtoeitheracceptableorhyperglycemicatthetimeofskilltesting (P .05).DuringStrooptesting,“reading”and“colorrecognition”alsodegradedduringhypoglycemia,while“interference” scoresimproved(P.05).Nocturnalhypoglycemiawaspresentin66%ofsubjects,lastinganaverageof84minutes,butthisdid nota?ectsportsskillperformancethefollowingday.Conclusions.Mildhypoglycemiamarkedlyredu
