Broadband seismic deployments have been carried out in the L¨utzow-Holm Bay region (LHB), Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica.Therecordedteleseismicandlocaleventsareofsu?cientqualitytoimagethestructureanddynamicsofthecrustand mantleoftheterrain.Passiveseismicstudiesbyreceiverfunctionsandshearwavesplittingsuggestaheterogeneousuppermantle. Depthvariationsintopographyforuppermantlediscontinuitieswerederivedfromlongperiodreceiverfunction,indicatinga shallowdepthdiscontinuityat660kmbeneaththecontinentalareaofLHB.Theseresultsprovideevidenceofpaleoupwellingof themantleplumeassociatedwithGondwanabreak-up.SKSsplittinganalysisanticipatedarelationshipbetween“fossil”anisotropy inlithosphericmantleandpasttectonics.Moreover,activesourcesurveys(DSSs)imagedlithosphericmantlere?ectionsinvolving regionaltectonicstressduringPan-Africanandsucceedingextensionregimeatthebreak-up.Bycombiningtheactiveandpassive sourcestudiesofthemantlestructure,weproposeanevolutionmodelofLHBforconstructingthepresentmantlestructure. 1.Introduction Discussions at the working group of the Anta
