Methods: Samplesfromtheintroitusandtheposteriorvaginalfornixandvaginallavagesampleswerecollected from91womenwithahistorysuggestiveofrecurrentvulvovaginalcandidosis(RVVC),andwithasuspectednew attack of the condition. The specimens were cultured on Sabouraud and CHROMagar . Speciation of yeast a ? isolates was made on thechromogenicagar by API 32C kits and by an atomized system (Vitek a ). Results: Forty-six(51%)womenwerepositiveforCandidafromoneormoreofthesamples.Theintroitalcultures werepositivein43 (47%)women,bothonSabouraudandchromogenicagar.Fromtheposteriorvaginalfomix, 42 (46%)womenwerepositiveontheSabouraudand43 (47%)onchromogenicagarcultures,whilethevaginal lavageculturesyieldedCandidaonthosetwomediain40 (44%)and4l (45%)cases,respectively.Candidaalbicans wasthemostfrequentspeciesrecovered,from40 (87%)cases,followed byC.kruseiin4 (9%),C.glabratain 2 (4%),andC.parapsilosisinonecase.Therewasonlyonewomanwhohadamixedyeastinfection,byC.albicans andC.krusei.Therewasonlyonediscrepancyinthespeciationasdemonstratedbymeanofchromogenicagarand API 32C kit. Conclusions: NeitherculturesofintroitalnorofvaginallavagesamplesincreasesthedetectionrateofCandidain RVVCcasesascomparedtoculturesofposteriorvaginalfornixsamples.Useofchromogenicagarisaconvenient and reliable
