LetAbeaternaryBanachalgebra.WeprovethatifAhasaleft-bounded approximating set,thenA hasaleft-bounded approximate identity.Moreover,weshowthatifAhasbounded leftandright approximate identities, then A has a bounded approximate identity. Hence, we prove Altman’s TheoremandDixon’sTheoremforternaryBanachalgebras. 1.Introduction Ternaryalgebraicoperationswereconsideredinthe19thcenturybyseveralmathematicians suchasCayley1whointroducedthenotionofcubicmatrixwhichinturnwasgeneralized byKapranovetal.in2.Thecommentsonphysicalapplicationsofternarystructurescanbe foundin3–7.
