Purpose.Thepresentstudyinvestigatedthepotentiale?ectsoflong-termT3treatmentongliomatumorcelllines.Thyroidhor- moneactiononcellgrowth,di?erentiationandsurvivalduringdevelopmentmaybeoftherapeuticrelevanceMethodsandResults 1321N1cellline,anastrocytomagradeII,andU87MG,aglioblastomagradeIV,wereexposedfor2and4daysinmediumde- privedofT3andinmediumcontaining1nMT3.T3promotedre-di?erentiationinbothcelllines.However,T3increasedcell proliferationin1321N1(2days)whichdeclinedthereafter(4days)whileinU87MGresultedinsuppressionofcellproliferation.At themolecularlevel,a2.9foldincreaseintheexpressionofTRα1receptorwasobservedinU87MGversus1321N1,P0.05.TRβ 1re- ceptorwasundetectable.ThesechangescorrespondedtoadistinctpatternofT3-inducedkinasesignalingactivation;T3hadno e?ectonERKactivationinbothcelllinesbutsigni?cantlyincreasedphospho-Aktlevelsin1321N1.Conclusion.Inconclusion,T3 canre-di?erentiategliomatumorcells,whereasitse?ectoncellproliferationappearstobedependentonthetypeoftumorcellline withaggressivetumorsbeingmoresensitivetoT3.TRα1receptormay,atleastinpart,beimplicatedinthisresponse. 1.Introdu
