Methods:34fattyacidspeciesfromadiposetissuebiopsiesweredeterminedinarandomsampleof1100menandwomen fromaDanishcohortstudy.Weusedsex-specificprincipalcomponentanalysisandmultiplelinearregressiontoinvestigate theassociationsofadiposetissuefattyacidpatternswithchangesinweight,waistcircumference(WC),andWCcontrolled forchangesinbodymassindex(WCBMI),adjustingforconfounders. Results:7principalcomponentswereextractedforeachsex,explaining77.6%and78.3%offattyacidvariationinmenand women,respectively.FattyacidpatternswithhighlevelsofTFAtendedtobepositivelyassociatedwithchangesinweight andWCforbothsexes.Patternswithhighlevelsofn-6LC-PUFAtendedtobenegativelyassociatedwithchangesinweight and WC in men, and positively associated in women. Associations with patterns with high levels of n-3 LC-PUFA were dependentonthecontextoftherestofthefattyacidpattern. Conclusions:AdiposetissuefattyacidpatternswithhighlevelsofTFAmaybelinkedtoweightgain,butpatternswithhigh n-3LC-PUFAdidnotappeartobelinkedtoweightloss.Associationsdependedoncharacteristicsoftherestofthepattern
