Here, we examine the influence of a range of environmental variables on the distribution of SymbiodiniumassociatedwithAcroporamilleporacollectedfrom47coralreefsspanning1,400kmontheGreatBarrierReef (GBR),Australia. Methodology/Principal Findings: The environmental data included Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)satellitedataat1kmspatialresolutionfromwhichanumberofseasurfacetemperature(SST)andwaterquality metricswerederived.Inaddition,thecarbonateandmudcompositionofsedimentswereincorporatedintotheanalysis alongwithinsituwaterqualitysamplesforasubsetoflocations.Analyseswereconductedatthreespatio-temporalscales [GBR(regional-scale),WhitsundayIslands(local-scale)andKeppelIslands/TrunkReef(temporal)]toexaminetheeffectsof scaleonthedistributionpatterns.WhileSSTmetricswereimportantdriversofthedistributionofSymbiodiniumtypesat regional andtemporalscales, ourresults demonstratethatspatial variability inwater qualitycorrelatessi
