Method:Extractionofthemaxillarycanineandalveolarsurgerywereperformedontwelveadultbeagledogs.Afterthat,the custom-madetooth-bornedistractiondeviceswereplacedonbeagles’teeth.Nineofthedogswereappliedcompressionat 0.5mm/dfor12dayscontinuously.Theotherthreereceivednoforceasthecontrolgroup.Theanimalswerekilledin1,14, and28daysaftertheendoftheapplicationofcompression. Results: The tissue responses were assessed by craniometric measurement as well as histological examination. Gross alterationswereevidentintheexperimentalgroup,characterizedbyanteriorteethcrossbite.Theaveragetotalmovements ofincisorswithin12dayswere4.6360.10mmandtheaverageanchoragelosseswere1.2560.12mm.Considerableroot resorptionextendingintothedentinecouldbeobserved1and14daysafterthecompression.Butafterconsolidationof28 days,therewereregeneratedcementumonthedentine.Therewasnoapparentchangeinthecontrolgroup.Noobvious toothloosening,gingivalnecrosis,pulpdegeneration,orotheradversecomplicationsappearedinanyofthedogs. Conclusions:Thisisthefirstexperimentalstudyfortestingthetechniqueofrapidanteriorteethretractionenmasseaided bymodifiedalveolarsurgery.Despiteapreliminaryanimalmodelstudy,thecurrentfindingspavethewayforthepotential clinicalapp
