Ontheopposite,nosuitablemarkersareavailablefortheoocyteselection. Methodology/PrincipalFindings:ThemajorfindingofthepresentpaperisthatthereleaseofICAM-1mightbepredictive ofoocytematuration.Theresultsobtainedareconfirmedusingthreeindependentmethodologies,suchasELISA,Bio-Plex assayandWesternblotting.ThesICAM-1releaseisveryhighinimmatureoocytes,decreaseinmatureoocytesandbecome evenlowerininvitrofertilizedembryos.NosignificantdifferenceswereobservedinthelevelsofsICAM-1releasebetween immatureoocyteswithdifferentmorphologicalcharacteristics.Onthecontrary,whenthematureoocytesweresubdivided accordingly to morphological criteria, the mean sICAM-I levels in grade 1 oocytes were significantly decreased when comparedtograde2and3oocytes. Conclusions/Significance:Thereductionofthenumberoffertilizedoocytesandtransferredembryosrepresentsthemain targetofassistedreproductivemedicine.WeproposesICAM-1asabiochemicalmarkerforoocytematurationandgrading, withapossibleinterestingreboundinassistedreproductiontechniques.
