Methods:Twenty-onestudiesmettheinclusioncriteriaforthemeta-analysisprocedure.TheComprehensiveMeta-Analysis softwarepackagewasusedtocomputepooledeffectsizesandhomogeneity. Results:Studiesfavoringearlyautomaticactivationproducedasignificanteffectsizeof20.41fortheN400effect.Studies favoringlatecontextualizationgeneratedasignificanteffectsizeof20.36fortheN400effect,asignificanteffectsizeof 20.52forN400forcongruent/relatedtargetwords,andasignificanteffectsizeof0.82fortheN400peaklatency. Conclusion:Thesefindingssuggesttheautomaticspreadingactivationprocessinpatientswithschizophreniaisverysimilar forcloselyrelatedconceptsandweaklyorremotelyrelatedconcepts,whilelatecontextualizationmaybeassociatedwith impairmentsinprocessingsemanticallycongruentcontextaccompaniedbyslowprocessingspeed.
