Materialandmethods:Twenty-sevenpatientswithhistologicallyprovenSFTswereretrospectivelyevaluated. Imagingstudiesincludedsixradiographs,fiveU/Sstudies,eighteenCTscans,fourteenMRIexams,andone angiography. Results:OnCTscans,twolesionswereisodenseandfiveweremildlyhypodensecomparedtomusclewhile11 lesionsappearedheterogeneous-mixedofisoandhypodenseareas.Heterogeneousenhancementwasdepictedin 13lesionsandfourlesionsenhancedhomogeneously.Sixlesionswerepartiallycalcified.OnT1WMRimages,seven lesionswereisointenseandonewasslightlyhyperintenserelativetoadjacentmuscleswhilefivelesionsappeared heterogeneous-mixedofisoandhypointenseareas.T2WimagesshowedhighSIintwocasesandheterogeneous- mixedinsevencases.Enhancementwasheterogeneousinsixandhomogeneousinfourlesions.Patchy unenhancedareas(onCTandT1WMRimages)alongwithpatchyareasoflowtomarkedlyhighSIonT2Wimages weredepictedin19lesions.Theenhancedportionscorrelatedtoareasofincreasedvascularityandcellularity.The fourclinicallymoreaggressivelesionscouldnotbepredictedonimaging. Conclusion:TypicalsofttissueSFTsaredeepmassesmadeofisodenseandisointenseareasrelativetoadjacent musclesmixedwithhypodenseandhypointenseareasonunenhancedCTandMRT1Wrespectively.Variable enhancementpatternsandmixedtohighsignalintensitiesonMRT2Wareattributedtotumor’ scellularity, vascularity,collagendistributionand/ordegeneration.HeterogeneityofSFTsaffectsimagingfeaturesonMRIand CTmodalities.ThebiologicalbehaviorofsofttissueSFTscannotbepredictedbasedsolelyeitheron histopathologicorimagingevaluation.
