Thisisamajorconcernforallsegmentsofsociety.ThecountycouncilofthemunicipalityofSvendborgin Denmark,createdsixSportSchoolswithincreasedlevelsofsuitablephysicalactivities,whichmadeitpossibleto studythehealthoutcomesinthesechildrenwhilstcomparingthemtochildrenwhoattendedthe‘normal’schools oftheregionusingthedesignofa“naturalexperiment”. Methods:Childrenfromtheageof6tilltheageof10,whoacceptedtobeincludedinthemonitoringprocess, weresurveyedatbaselinewithquestionnaires,physicalexaminationsandphysicalandbiologicaltesting,including DXAscans.Thephysicalexaminationandtestingwasrepeatedduringtheearlystageofthestudy.Everyweekover thewholestudyperiod,thechildrenwillbefollowedwithanautomatedmobilephonetextmessage(SMS-Track) askingquestionsontheirleisuretimesportsactivitiesandthepresenceofanymusculoskeletalproblems.Children whoreportanysuchproblemsaremonitoredindividuallybyhealthcarepersonnel.Dataarecollectedon demography,healthhabitsandattitudes,physicalcharacteristics,physicalactivityusingaccelerometers,motor performance,fitness,bonehealth,life-styledisorders,injuriesandmusculoskeletalproblems.Datacollectionwill continueatleastonceayearuntilthechildrenreachgrade9. Discussion:Thisprojectisembeddedinalocalcommunity,whichsetuptheintervention(TheSportSchools)and thereafterinvitedresearcherstoprovidedocumentationandevaluation.Sportschoolsarewellmatchedwiththe ‘normal’schools,makingcomparisonsbetweenthesesuitable.However,subgroupsthatwouldbespecifically targetedinlifestyleinterventionstudies(suchasthedefinitelyobese)couldberelativelysmall.Th
