Becausemoststudiesuseasinglepointofdatacollectiontodeterminethetypesoffoodsthatarepresentinthe home,whichcanmissthechangeinavailabilitywithinamonthandwhenresourcesarenotavailable,theprimary objectiveofthispilotstudywastoexaminethefeasibilityandvalueofconductingweeklyin-homeassessmentsof householdfoodresourcesoverthecourseofonemonthamonglow-incomeMexicanofamiliesinTexascolonias. Methods:Weconductedfivein-homehouseholdfoodinventoriesoverathirty-dayperiodinasmallconvenience sample;determinedthefrequencythatfooditemswerepresentintheparticipatinghouseholds;andcompareda one-timemeasurementwithmultiplemeasurements. Afterthedevelopmentandpre-testingofthe252-itemculturallyandlinguistically-appropriatehouseholdfood inventoryinstrumentthatuseddirectobservationtodeterminethepresenceandamountoffoodandbeverage itemsinthehome(refrigerator,freezer,pantry,elsewhere),twotrainedpromotorasrecruitedaconveniencesample of6households;administeredabaselinequestionnaire(personalinfo,shoppinghabits,andfoodsecurity);con- ducted5in-homeassessments(7-dayinterval)overa30-dayperiod;anddocumentedgroceryshoppingandother food-relatedactivitieswithinthepreviousweekofeachin-homeassessment.AlldatawerecollectedinSpanish.
