Data from 4049 Romanov sheep a?ected by natural scrapie were analyzed usingsurvivalanalysistechniques.Theoriginaldatasetincluded1310animalswithmissing genotypes;?veofthosehaduncensoredrecords.Di?erentmissinggenotype-informationpat- ternsweresimulatedforuncensoredandcensoredrecords.Threestrategiesdi?eringintheway genotypeinformationwashandledweretested.Firstly,recordswithunknowngenotypeswere discarded (P1); secondly, those records weregrouped inan unknown class(P2). Finallythe probabilitiesofgenotypes wereassigned (P3).Whatever thestrategy,therankingof relative risksforthemostsusceptiblegenotypes(VRQ–VRQ,ARQ–VRQandARQ–ARQ)wassim- ilarevenwhenthenon-genotyped animalswerenotanegligiblepartofuncensored records. However, P3 had a more e?cient way of handling missing genotype information.
