Ch inaRailway Eryuan Engineering Group Co. , L td. , Chengdu 610031, Ch ina) Abstract: In order to scientifically carry out h ighgrade raiwl ay route selection in complicated mountainous areas, some major engineering geological problem s in raiwl ay route selection w ere put forw ard. These problems are the gravitational process and movement of substance in highmountain gorge areas, the crustal deformation and fault vibration mechan ics, the engineering geological route selection of large elevated railw ay w ith a large difference in elevation, and the rock mass deformation and substancemovem ent of deepseated tunnels and so on. Based on the construction cases of the new raiwl ay lines in mountainous areas in Ch ina, several new research topics on the engineering geology of h ighgrade raiwl ay in comp licated mountainous areas w ere advanced. They are the theory, princip le and method of tunnel location selection and the slope stab ility evaluation of tunnel porta,l and the location selection and slope stab ility evaluation of bridge sites in alpinegorge areas.
