Abstract:A prim ary objective of long -pan bridge health monitoring i to obtain the information on bridge
condition through online monitoring of the tructural performance.Al o,health monitoring help to verify the
de ign approache and to validate the analytical model of bridge tructure .In addition, the unknow n i ue
and the uncertaintie involved in the tructural mechanic and the environmental condition of a long-pan
bridge may be tudied through health monitoring.In thi paper,after a brief overview of the development of
bridge health monitoring,the connotatio n of bridge health monitoring i pointed out in an extended en e.Re-
lated i ue on the de ig n of monitoring y tem,including the principle of y tem de ign and the monitoring
item for long-pan bridge are di cu ed.
