Abstract Collected Works of Ji-Yi is a very important legal works on ancient Chinese history. Shen Jiaben showed his excellent attainments of the studies of Chinese civilization. He made painstaking effort in this book for his thirst for the political reform and the law revision, and it is extremely meaningful for the study of the modernization of law in our country. I make a systematic and deep study of Collected Works of Ji-Yi, so that readers can learn Shen Jiaben and his Collected Works of Ji-Yi comprehensively. The paper is divided into four parts. Firstly, it is the brief introduction to Shen Jiaben including his life and the achievement in his time and the background, edition, content of the work Collected Works of Ji-Yi that can make readers learn some about Shen Jiaben and his great writing Collected Works of Ji-Yi in general. Secondly, it mainly talks about the legal thought from Shen Jiaben to make a deeper exploration for the book Collected Works of Ji-Yi. Through the analysis in the three fields of theoretical jurisprudence, criminal jurisprudence and science of civil law, It is showns that it is enlightened for Shen Jiaben’s legal reform according to western law, nonetheless, it also shows his legal thought still lag behind the temporal society because of the sticking to the feudal ethics, however, the former idea is the mainstream.
