Therefore , the paper discussed the course of the development of the subject in geogra phy of former Soviet Union and in west countries. One point must be mentioned is , since China im prove its “reform and openingup to the world ”and the GDP growth of the national economy and the local economy of every class (provinces , cities and counties) , the local economy , namely the economy of the provincial as the major , has played a very important role in the national economy. Means , the focus of the economic system reform , moving from countryside to cities , caused the quick development of citycenters of every class regions. The growth of the centers means the growth and the ripeness of the local economies and the regions. But , it was very difficult to make balance between the regional development .
