The Count of Monte Cristo Narrated by Alexandre Dumas The story takes place in France, Italy, and islands on the Mediterranean . It is primarily concerned with themes of justice, revenge, mercy and forgiveness, and is told in the style of an adventure story. Dumas got the idea for The Count of Monte Cristo from a true story. The true one related to the story of a shoemaker who was engaged to a rich woman, but four jealous friends accused him of being a spy for England. He was imprisoned for seven years. During his imprisonment ,a dying fellow prisoner bequeathed(遗赠) him a treasure hidden in an island. So he took possession of the treasure after he was released and returned to Paris in the name of another person and spent ten years plotting his successful revenge against his former friends. Main plots The Count of Monte Cristo mainly told the revenge of a young man named Edmond Dantes, a young sailor who is falsely accused of treason and is arrested on his wedding day and imprisoned on the island far from his home. After staging a strange friendship with a priest who knows a mysterious hidden treasure and a dramatic escape ,he sets out to discover the fabulous treasure of Monte Cristo and returns to his hometown with the name-- The Count of Monte Cristo .He soon catches up with his enemies and begins his revenge with this fortune he found. It is a novel of enormous tension and excitement，Monte Cristo is a tale of obsession and revenge.
