(2)A tariff usually lowers the well-being of each nation, including the nation imposing the tariff, excepting the “nationally optimal” tariff. An import tariff is a duty on the imported commodity, while an export tariff is a duty on the exported commodity. * * 5.1 Types of Tariff 1. A specific tariff is stipulated as a money amount per physical unit of import, such as dollars per ton of steel bars, or dollars per eight-cylinder two-door sports car. * * 5.1 Types of Tariff 2. An ad valorem (on the value) tariff is a percentage of the estimated market value of the goods when they reach the importing country. * * 5.1 Types of Tariff 3.
