Abs tract: Researches on w etland degradation assessment has becom e the hot points in the field of
w etland science. Restoration and reconstruction of degenerated and damagedd w etland ecosystem
need a huge investm ent, so only based on assessing the level and potential ofw etlands degradation,
and the role of supporting human development are fu lly understood, cou ld the restoration and recon
struction be meaningfu.l The current status of research on w etland degradation assessment both in
China and abroad are summarized. The problem s existed in w etland degradation assessm ent are put
forw ard and d iscussions are made aboutw etland degradation assessment and its perspective.
