When light interacts with matter, light can be thought of as a beam of particles composed of photons, each of which has the energy of: E = hv Where E is the energy of the photon, v is the frequency of light, h is the Planck constant. The energy state of Er3 + ion in erbium-doped optical fiber is not continuously evaluated.
