物理名家2(Physics expert 2) The discovery of Mrs. Curie and radium Maria Skorodovskaya, known as Mrs. Curie, was known as the mother of radium. She was born in November 7, 1867 in the Russian capital of Poland under the Russian invaders, Warsaw. Her father, a professor of physics at Warsaws high school, made her interested in scientific experiments from an early age. In 1891, she went to Paris for further studies and received two masters degrees. Upon completion of her studies, she intended to return to the motherland to serve the enslaved people of Poland, but changed her plans with the acquaintance of Pierre Curie, a young French physicist. In 1895, she married Pierre, who gave birth to a daughter in 1897 and a future Nobel prize winner. Mrs. Curie noticed the work of French physicist Becquerel. Since roentgen discovered X rays, Becquerel discovered a uranium ray when examining a rare mineral called uranium salt, and friends called it Becquerel ray. The rays Becquerel discovered aroused Mrs. Curies great interest. Where did the radiation come from? Mrs Curie saw that all the laboratories in Europe had not yet been subjected to a thorough study of uranium rays, and resolved to break into it. The president of the physics and chemistry school, after many requests by Pierre, allowed Mrs. Curie to use a damp cottage for physics and chemistry experiments. At room temperature of 6 degrees Celsius, she was completely involved in the study of uranium salts. Mrs. Curie, who was highly trained in advanced chemistry, thought that when she studied uranium ore she had no reason to prove that uranium was the only chemical element that could emit radiation. She measured one by one according to Mendeleevs elements of the periodic law, and soon discovered that another compound of thorium could also emit radiation automatically, similar to uranium and similar in intensity. Mrs. Curie realized that this phenomenon was not only a characteristic of uranium, but had to be given a new name.
