Based on questionnaires and interview s, a survey is conduct ed to understand the stat us quo of northw est junior high school English t eaching evaluat ion in the backw ard rural areas. The survey findings re veals that the terminal evaluation of teaching is still dominant in the several dimensions: the purpose, strategy, subjects, main contents and forms.Accordingly , a few suggestions are given.
