To discuss the effect of Jieyu1hao on cognitive functions and the neuropeptide NPY, SP, SS in treating depression ABSTRACT Objective: To discuss the effect of the compound prescription of Chinese medicine Jieyu1hao on cognitive functions and the neuropeptide NPY, SP, SS in treating depression. To provide scientific basis for the treatment theory and clinical practice of regulating the functional activities of vital energy of the spleen and stomach to treat depression. Methods: 60 patients with depression were enrolled, and divided randomly into the Chinese medicine group (30 cases) treated with Jieyu1hao and the western medicine group (30 cases) treated with fluoxetine hydrochloride capsules. The effect of therapy was evaluated before and at the 6th weeks of the treatment with Hamilton’s depressive scale (HAMD), cognitive functions test and the check of neuropeptide NPY, SP and SS. and the side-effect of the treatment was assessed with side-effect scale at the 6th weeks of treatment. 30 healthy volunteers were enrolled into the controlled group, and evaluated with cognitive functions test and the check of neuropeptide NPY, SP, SS at once. To observe the changes of cognitive functions and neuropeptide, and Jieyu1hao’s effect on the changes contrasting with fluoxetine hydrochloride capsules. Results: The patients with depression have evident cognitive dysfunction and neuropeptide NPY, SS are lower, and the neuropeptide SP is upper contrasting with the controlled group.
