Nov．2013，Volume7，No．11(SerialNo．72)，PP．1464—1470 JournalofCivilEngineeringandArchitecture，ISSN 1934-7359，USA … … N 6 EconomyofRHA(RiceHuskAsh)inConcretefor Low--CostHousingDeliveryinNigeria olonadeKolawoleAdisa DepartmentofCivilEngineering,ObafemiAwolowoUniversity，He—lye220005，Nigeria Abstract：Deliveryofhousingunitsinadequatequantityandqualityhasbeenthepursuitsofindividualsandsuccessivegovernments inNigeria．Still，thegapbetweendemandna dsupplyisbecomingwiderondailybasisduetoexorbitantcostofbuildingmaterialsthat isbeyondthereachofaverageNigerians．Concretebeingthemostacceptableconstructionmaterialisexpensiveduetohighcostof cement．Effortsmadetoreducethecostofcementweretonoavail．thusthereisneedtolookelsewhere．Pastresearchesshowedthat substitutingcementwithl5％ofRHA(ricehuskash)inconcreteimprovestheperformanceofconcreteandreducesglobalwamr ingas aresultofemissionsfrom cementproduction．ThispaperlooksintotheeffectofusingRHA aspartialsubstituteofcementonthecost ofalow．costhousingunit．Resultsshowedthatcementbasedconstructionmaterialsareresponsiblefor82．58％ ofthetotalcostin whichcementisresponsiblefor42％．When15％RHAwasusedtosubstitutecementoverN90，000wassaved，amountingtoabout7％ ofthetotalcostofthebuilding．Inaddition．depletionofnaturalresourceswasreduced． Keywords：Housingdelivery，pozzolan，ricehuskash，globalwamr ing，low-costhousing 1．Introducti0n housingdevelopmentatavery highcost． InRef．[2]，Mabogunjeassesseshousingsituationin Acquiringabefittinghousingunitatanaffordable Nigeriaandputexistinghousingstockat23per1，000 costisthedesireofevery man，irrespectiveofhis inhabitantsandalsoputhousingdeficitat15million l
