References:7[Abstract]: Beijing, Shanghai, as the two major economic centers are the growth pole of Bohai economic circle and “Yangtze River Delta economic circle”, but their economic radiation effects to the surrounding hinterland are very different. My analysis will focus on the different aspectsof history, institution, and culture between Beijing and Shanghai, and try to give suggestions which will enhance the “trickle effects”of Beijing. [Keywords]: Beijing; Shanghai; growth pole; economic radiation; 1 IntroductionBeijing and Shanghai are two of the most developed cities, but thereisbig difference between their radiation effects. From the statistics ofBeijing, Tianjin, Hebei and “Yangtze River Delta economic circle”, in 2008, the total GDP of the Bohaieconomic circleis 2.8113 trillion in RMB, accounting for 11.27% of the national GDP, the per capita GDP is 30,840 in RMB. For theYangtze River Delta economic circle, the total GDP is 4.6862 trillion in RMB, accounting for 18.78 percent of the national GDP,the per capita GDP is 56,001 in RMB. In 2011, the total GDP of chinais 47.1564 trillion in RMB, the total GDP of the Yangtze River Deltaeconomic circle is 9.726241 trillion in RMB, accounting for 20.6 percent of national GDP. In addition, from the development of theirsurrounding provinces, in 2010,the GDP of Tianjin is 922.446 billion in RMB, the GDP of Hebeiis 2.039426 trillion in RMB.The GDP of Jiangsu in 2010 is 4.142548 trillion in RMB, Zhejiang is 2.772231 trillionin RMB. It can be found that Beijings economic radiation is much weaker than Shanghai. What’s more, the trickle effects of Beijing to surrounding area is weaker than Shanghai in present, and resources in the surrounding areas all f
