The results show that there are significant differences in the scientific research ability of engineering doctoral students studying in different grades universities, and the differences in the research ability of doctoral students whose previous education in different grades of colleges and universities are not significant. In addition, the interactive effect of the doctoral degree in the university level and the grade of the university now further falsified the traditional hypothesis, that is doctoral students who came from the 985 Project universities and now studying in the first grade universities have the strongest scientific research ability.
