Chapter 11 Various Moods in 19th-Century English Poetry overview Victorian poets faced a more demanding task than their contemporary novelists. The Victorian poets shouldered the heavy burden of trying to continue the enormous success of the Romantic poets. They assumed a more rational and realistic attitude towards nature and human life.
