Unit 2 What time do you go to school?
SectionA (1a-2d)
Learning goals:
Learn how to ask and say times with such patterns as What time is it? It’s ten o’clock/four fifteen/ two thirty/ eleven forty-five.
Learn how to talk about their days with such patterns as What time do you usually get up? I usually get up at six o’clock. Pay attention to the use of always, usually and never.
Time is important and educate the students to arrange their times healthily.
Teaching steps
Step I Warming up and leading in
一、Show some sayings about time on the screen,educate the students to value the time.
Time is money. 一寸光阴,一寸金。
Time is life.时间就是生命。
Time flies.时光如梭
Time and tide wait for no man. 时不我待!
One today is worth two tomorrows. 一个今天等于两个明天。
Never put off till tomorrow what may be done today. 今日事今日毕。
二、Show a picture of a clock to the students, ask:
T: Look at the picture, what is it?
Ss: It’s a clock.
T: Yeah, a clock. Now who can tell me what it is used for?
Ss: It can tell us the time.
T: Yeah, you’re very clever. Now let’s learn how to ask the time.
Step II Pre-listening activities
1. T: When we say times, what can we use?
Ss: Numbers.
T: OK, please say the numbers as quickly as possible.
Then write down some numbers on their exercise books.
One student writes these numbers on the blackboard.
⑴ one eleven twenty-one ⑵ two twelve twenty
⑶ three thirteen thirty ⑷ four fourteen forty
⑸ five fifteen fifty ⑹ six seven eight nine ten
Check the answers and let students pay attention to the red words.
2. Let students learn how to ask and say times in groups. The teacher walks around the classroom and gives help. Then show some times on the screen and let students read them.
What time is it?/What’s the time? It’s….
4:05 four five 6:10 six ten 7:15 seven fifteen
9:20 nine twenty 12:00 twelve o’clock 7:45 seven forty-five
