1.0introductionVehicle-On-Wheels (VOW) air leakage quantifies the total area of holes in the vehicle cabin. North American Ford activities measure VOW air leakage in cubic feet per minute (cfm). Ford activities elsewhere use either centimeters squared (cm2) or liters per second (l/s). VOW air leakage can be represented as the sum of four contributions:VOW Air Leakage (Extractors Closed) = Trimmed Body Air Leakage + Door Air Leakage + Decklid / Liftgate/ Swingate Air Leakage + Body-In-Paint Air LeakageThe primary purpose of this CETP is to quantify the following:VOW Air Leakage (Extractors Closed)Door Air LeakageDecklid / Liftgate /Swingate Air LeakageThis procedure also details the calculation of trimmed body air leakage. Measurement of Body-In-Paint (BIP) air leakage (see CETP 01.00-L-619) is required before computing the trimmed body leakage.The VOW air leakage measurement procedure is intended principally for Product Development teams signing-off air leakage for NVH and providing OK-To-Buy assessments during product launches. The procedure may also be useful to Manufacturing activities when diagnosing air leakage error states (refer to Vehicle Operations Air Leakage Test Procedure VOPFAG-263). Product Development activities also use air leakage to assess vehicle susceptibility to dust and carbon monoxide intrusion.Measurement of VOW air leakage (Extractors Open) is also included in this procedure. Air flow through the extractors is a useful quantity for assessing window fogging susceptibility and door closing efforts.1.1COMMONALITY. This is a CONTROL TEST and can be used to qualify vehicles or components throughout the world. The test may be conducted at any location having the necessary equipment and facilities. Proposed revisions to this procedure must be submitted per FAP03-179.2.0Instrumentation2.1An air leakage test stand with blower and pressure feedback controller is required.
