With DMAIC our goal is to achieve entitlement (the best possible performance of the existing product/process ) through reducing defects, shifting means and reducing variation. Unfortunately, entitlement is often not good enough to completely satisfy customer needs. Therefore, DFSS can be applied if entitlement falls short of satisfying our customers. Model I is simply DFSS training for existing MBBs, BBs and GBs. Model I allows the ‘Belts’ to upgrade their Six Sigma skills and learn how to apply Six Sigma to design problems. Some savvy MBBs will acquire enough insight to deploy DFSS themselves after the training Model II also provides training; but the key outcome is completed DFSS projects. Model II begins with Champion training where projects are selected and scoped. DFSS training occurs as in Model I and project support is also provided. The DFSS students do not need to have previous Six Sigma training in this model. For such cases the students would attend DFSS GB training. (This is a likely scenario in a design engineering organization.) Model III is a full scale DFSS deployment. This model begins with an initialization phase that is discussed in more detail on the next slide. Initialization is followed by Training Support and then Realization.
