The Undergraduate Education System
The thesis of this article is that we in the management discipline need to apply our knowledge—about organizations, management, quality, organizational learning, and change—to challenge the frame of our own undergraduate education system. We have ignored this need due to paradigm blindness, less than passionate commitment to serve our customers, willingness to conform rather than risk challenging the system, and vagrant leadership at the top. Unintentional or not, we have a challenging responsibility to lead the effort to examine our frame and consider an alternative frame, a quality learning system, driven by a superior core learning process, for undergraduate education. It is a task for only the strong, the caring, the intellectually honest, the tenaciously persistent, and those who unselfishly serve the learners.
The purpose of this paper is sevenfold: 1) to raise our current frame (paradigm, system, and core process) into full consciousness—to make it explicit, 2) to ex
