 ANSWER GUIDANCE GENERAL This topic encompasses the measurement of procurement people, organisations, and systems. Candidates should manage their time in the examination carefully, and aim to divide the three hours evenly between section A and section B. Candidates should observe the instructions inside the question paper advising them on time-management. Candidates are advised to read over the foregoing exemplar examination paper, and the associated making scheme, very thoroughly; and then to compare the exam questions with the indicated syllabus areas within the topic, in order to see where the marks derive and how the examination paper covers the various syllabus topics. SECTION A Both questions within section A must be attempted by all candidates. Candidates should allow about half of an hour to read the case study and then spend approximately 35 minutes answering each question. Questions based on scenarios are designed to explore the syllabus in the context of a feasible business situation. During the ‘reading time’ available candidates should read the scenario right through, thoroughly. Then read it right through again! Candidates may wish to annotate the case study, making notes, highlighting important words and information, or summarising the key facts. These techniques will help draw out the main points as given in the scenario. Try and ‘think yourself into the role’ when it comes to answering the questions – if it were really you faced with the task, and bringing your procurement knowledge and experience to bear, what would you actually do? The examiner is looking for both a demonstration of your previous learning AND a demonstration of that learning being brought to bear on the scenario described; with the addition of your common sense and your wider business experiences.
