To sustain companies’ competitive advantages, they often tend to reward individuals or implement knowledge management systems in order to actualize knowledge transfer. Ironically, they frequently find the codified knowledge stored in information systems useless, even when considerable resources are invested. The existing studies employ perspectives relating to either organizational theories or technological features to investigate knowledge transfer difficulties. While both these perspectives suggest approaches to remove obstacles within knowledge transfer, they seem to miss some problem arising from the other perspectives. Therefore, this study seeks to develop a new integrated model called “knowledge road map” based on current literatures. We apply the model to explore knowledge management. This study adopts case study method to examine effective knowledge transfer. This investigation is put into the context of a semiconductor manufacturer and equipment supplier. They attempt to codify and transfer their knowledge of machine troubleshooting. This study suggests that knowl
