R esu lts show tha t the m a in reason to cau se bo lt head fracture is overlap in bo lt suppo rting surface and concentra ting deform ation band in head central structure. A mi ing a t the cau se the fo llow ing mi provem ent m easures are proposed: to allo ca te defo rma tion leng th of co ld heading each w o rking po sition reasonab ly, to con trol the f irst co ld heading com pression ratio about 30% , to adju stm ater ia l feed ing length to m ake m ater ia l f ill into d ie cav ity and not fo rm over lap afte r co ld head ing; to design die cav ity structure in favor ofm e talm ate rial plastic deforma tion, to keep good lubr ication cond ition in die cav ity; to do re liev ing annea ling on bo lt o f head large de fo rm ation, annea ling tem perature form 500 to 650 ; to enlarge unde r head f illet possib ly w ith in the lmi its o f standard to reduce stress concentration a round co rner.
