AbstractDecember 2006, according to WTO commitments China has the full liberalization of the banking sector, a large number of foreign banks have moved into the Chinese market, launched a comprehensive competition with Chinas commercial banks . Meanwhile, the traditional four state banks has been transformed into real commercial banks, and they compete with joint-stock commercial banks and city commercial banks. As the main body of Chinas financial system, Chinas commercial banks also face competition from domestic banks and foreign banks, Chinas banking industry comes into an unprecedented era of competition. In order to win the competition with domestic and foreign banks, China’s commercial banks must improve their competitiveness.At first ,this paper describes the competitiveness and the competitiveness of commercial banks in the content, the theory of the competitiveness of enterprises, and then start on the research of competitiveness of listed commercial banks. Then following the principles with scientific, comprehensive, and available, selects 19 indicators which can reflect the competitiveness of commercial banks to make up the scientific and reasonable index system to do empirical analysis, the empirical research method is factor analysis. Factor analysis is a method that using a few hypothetical factor variables to reflect the most information of the index system, this method can overcome the subjectivity of defects. With the actual situation, this paper chooses 11 listed banks as the research object, and collects the sample data from the Annual Report 2009 published by the 11 listed bank, and then to do factor analysis for the competitiveness of the listed commercial banks, and determine the banks competitiveness ranking. Finally, based on the results of empirical analysis, this paper put forward to policy recommendations to enhance the competitiveness level of Chinas commercial banks from the banks internal factors and external financial environment.Keyw
