Expression of KAI1 in Papillary Thyroid carcinoma and its significanceAbstractObjective: KAI1 is a recently discovered metastasis suppressor gene, it plays an important role in the genesis and progress of a variety of human malignant tumor. The aim of this experiment is to study the expression of KAI1 in papillary thyroid carcinoma,the corresponding adjacent normal tissues and benign thyroid lesions tissues,to explore the relationship between the expression of KAI1 in papillary thyroid carcinoma and the clinicopathological features and the prognosis ,to provide a new theory evidence for papillary thyroid carcinoma in treatment and prognosis assessment.Methods: The expression of KAI1 mRNA was detected by Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction in 21 cases of papillary thyroid carcinoma and the corresponding adjacent normal tissues,7 cases of benign thyroid lesions tissues;The expression of KAI1 protein was detected by immunohistochemic-al method in 60 cases of papillary thyroid carcinoma tissues and 20 cases of thyroid adenoma tissues,which all the tissues were paraffin-embedded.Results:The expression of KAI1 mRNA in papillary thyroid carcinoma was significantly higher than the adjacent normal tissues (P0.05) and benign thyroid lesions tissues (P0.05).(1) The positive expression rate of KAI1 protein in papillary thyroid carcinoma was 68.3%, but in thyroid adenoma tissues was 25%, The positive expression rate of KAI1 protein in papillary thyroid carcinoma was significantly higher than in thyroidadenoma tissues（ⅹ2 =14.57, P0.01）.In papillary thyroid carcinoma,the positive expression rate of KAI1 protein in the group that without lymph node metastasis was higher than in that with lymph nodemetastasis（ⅹ2 =7.31 ，P0.05）.There was no difference in KAI1 protein positiveexpression rate in male or female patients （ⅹ2 =3.27 ，P0.05）.The expression of KAI1 protein in papillary thyroid carcinoma was not related to patients’ age, tumor size, TNM staging or capsule invasion
