Aluminummatrixcompositesreinforcedwith0~6vol%carbonnanotubes(inshortCNTs)werefabricatedbyfrictionstirprocessing(FSP).TheeffectofCNTscontentonMacromorphologyandmicrostructurewasinvestigated.Themechanicspropertiesofthecompositeweretested,andtheinfluenceofcontentofCNTsonthemechanicspropertieswasanalyzed.ThemicrostructuresofcompositewereobservedbymeansofSEMandTEM.Thewearingandstrengtheningmechanismofcompositeswerestudied.ItprovidedatheoreticalbasisforextendapplicationofFSP.Theresultsshowthat:CNTs/AlcompositesofdifferentcontentCNTsweresuccessfullypreparedbyFSP.InCenteroffrictionstirzone,themicrostructuretransformfromoriginalelongatedmicrostructuretothefineequiaxedgrainafterFSP.Thereareblackpointsinthemicrostructurewhicharehollowholewithinmuchparticles.TheyaresegregationofCNTsinthisregion.WiththeincreaseofthecontentofCNTs,theblackpointsgraduallyincrease.Theresultsofmechanicspropertiesshowthat:withtheincreasingofthecontentofCNTs,thehardnessandtensilestrengthofcompositesareimprovingwhiletheirelongationisreducing.Fracturetests’resultsshowthatthemacrofractureofthecompositesdistributesgreatfibrouswhencontentofCNTsis1.6%.Andthecharacteristicsofthefractureismicroporousaggregation.ThefracturesdistributelessfibrousinmacrowhilemuchdimpleinmicroscopicwhenCNTscontentis6%.Thefracturesofcompositematerialsshowbrittlefractureonmacroandductilefractureonmicro.ThefracturemechanismdominatedbyAl-CNTsinterfacedebondingandCNTsPullingout.CNTsplayroleinbridgingfiber.WhenCNTsaddedinAlmatrix,self-lubricatingfilmisformedonthesurface,itcanpreventeddirectlycontactbetweenbasematerialandfrictionpair,andcaneffectivelyreducewearvaleofcomposites.ThewearvalueofcompositesisreducedandtendedtobestablewiththeincreaseoftheCNTscontent.Thewearvaluewasincreasedwithfrictionpressureraised.ThewearvalueofCNTs6/AlandCNTs4.4/Alalsoincreasedslowlywhenfrictionpressureisbelow40N.ButthewearvalueofCNTs6/AlwashigherthanthatofCNTs4.4/Alwhenfrictionpressureupto40N.Thewearmechanismofpurealuminumismainlyabrasivewearwhilewearmechan
