My previous presentation: Measuring the Importance of Collaborative Learning for the Effectiveness of ALN: A Multi-measure, Multi-method Approach (Authors: S. R. Hiltz et.al.) In the information age, school can come to us” --- Online Journal of Distance Education and Communication Computer supported collaborative learning CAI (Behaviorism)?CSCL (Constructism, Social) Computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) is an emerging paradigm (Koschmann, 1996) for research in educational technology that focuses on the use of information and communications technology as a mediational tool within collaborative methods of learning (Barbara Wasson, 1997, 1998) Groupware Groupware: information technology that enable a synchronous and asynchronous collaboration by introducing a measure of structure that facilitates the process of sharing, organizing and navigating information. Examples: Desktop conferencing, videoconferencing, co-authoring features and applications, electronic mail and bulletin boards, meeting support systems..etc. Problems Groupware may be resisted if it interferes with the subtle and complex social dynamics that are common to groups. Enhance collaboration only in organizations that have an inherently collaborative culture. Technology will enhance collaboration when: (1) members have a need to collaborate; (2) users understand the technology and how it can support collaboration; (3) schools or organizations provide appropriate support for the adoption, implementation, and continued use of the technology; (4) the school or organization culture supports collaboration.
