MCBA’s Player Participation Rule – 6.1.1 In a nutshell: All players get two full quarters in every game with VERY limited exceptions. Summary of the rule Every player will play at least two full quarters of each game according to YOUR plan. Reasonable exceptions include illness, injury, withdrawal from play by parents, fouling out (but NOT “foul trouble”), late arrival and early departure, and “disciplinary action” by you. You will inform the commissioner – and should inform the player/parent – if you plan to withhold a player for “disciplinary action.” If you don’t follow the spirit of the rule, MCBA will take action up to, and including, disqualification of you as a coach. Instructions on the scorer’s table for the scorekeeper At the start of a quarter, circle the quarter-number in the scorebook for each player entering the game. If a player leaves the game during this quarter, put a diagonal slash through the circle (a “no” symbol) and another slash through the quarter number of the substitute. This way, every player getting a full quarter is obvious. At halftime, inform the coach of any player that must play the ENTIRE second half. Before the start of the fourth quarter, inform the coach of any player that must play the ENTIRE quarter. If appropriate, get the attention of the commissioner to resolve any misunderstandings. Do not use other symbols, such as filling in parts of the box: Only circles, circles with a slash, and diagonal slashes. Example Example, completed The only “given” consequence The written rule calls for automatic forfeiture of the game. Note...if both teams fail to follow the rule, then a double forfeit is recorded, with both teams suffering a loss.
