AbstractPay-to-Bid auction system is a new kind of online auction system. In recent years, the network traffic of the websites using this business model is increasing very fast. The essence of this business system is a kind of real-time system with high conflict. Today, more and more real-time systems are applied in everyday life. So the research and implementation of Pay-to-Bid auction system has important theoretical and practical meanings.The target of this dissertation is to design and implement a Pay-to-Bid auction system. Three different concurrency control techniques will be applied in this system. As the same time, by comparing the performance of different methods, a guideline can be given in choosing concurrency control strategies for real-time systems.At the beginning of this project, a literature review about the Pay-to-Bid auction system and different concurrency control techniques will be done in order to understand the business process and model of the system and the characters of different concurrency techniques.After that, the design and implementation of the system will follow the life cycle of software engineering. The process contains requirement analysis, system design, system implementation, and testing. In the requirement analysis phase, starting from use case description, both functional and performance requirements were analysed. The design phase starts with the analysis of business and algorithm process, followed by the design of basic process and algorithm process. The class and database design were done based on that. In the implementation phase, the implementation of the system strictly followed the design. The virtual clients were also implemented by using JMeter. Different methods were used to compare the testing results.The project fulfilled the target of implementing a Pay-to-Bid auction system. At the same time, by comparing the testing data, one algorithm is found to perform better in this kind of real-time systems.Keywords Pay-to-
