ContentsiiAStudyonTheoreticalConstructionofEnglish-ChineseTranslationCourseBooksforUndergraduateStudents(1999-2008)AbstractIntheeraofglobalization,Chinaisinanurgentneedofqualifiedtranslators.Undoubtedly,translationteachingplaysanimportantroleincultivatingandtrainingtranslators,andtranslationcoursebooksplayapivotalpartintransferringtranslationknowledgeanddevelopingstudents?translationskillsandcompetence.InherbookentitledEnglish-ChineseTranslationCourseBooksinChina(1949-1998),whichmightbeconsideredthemostsystematicworkontranslationcoursebooksatpresent,ProfessorZhangMeifangindicatedthattranslationcoursebookswereflourishing,buttranslationtheoriescompiledinthecoursebooksfailedtofollowthelatestdevelopmentoftranslationstudies.Inaddition,anotherinfluentialfigureintranslationteachingstudiesProfessorMuLeiin1999pointedoutthattoomanytranslationcoursebooksweredoingtheirownways,andlow-qualityoneswerebeingrepeatedlyproducedbutcouldhardlymotivatethelearnerstoactivelyparticipateinthelearningprocess.Actually,alargenumberofwesterntranslationtheorieshavebeengraduallyintroducedtoChinasince1980s,includingtheoriesofEugeneNida,Cartford,Newmark,WelshandBassnett,etc.Andinthepasttenyears,morenewtranslationtheorysystemshaveengagedtheinterestsofChinesescholars,suchasPolysystemtheory,DescriptiveTranslationStudies,SkoposTheory,HermeneuticandDeconstructionistapproachestotranslation,Post-colonialapproachtotranslationandFeministApproachtotranslation,etc.TenyearshavepassedsinceProfessorZhangMeifangmadetheresearchonEnglish-ChinesetranslationcoursebooksinChina(1949-1998).Withthefastdevelopmentofthetranslationstudieshomeandabroad,aretherechangesinthesituationoftranslationcoursebooksinChinanow?HavethelatestacademicstudyresultsbeenappliedtocompilingEnglish-Chinesetranslationcoursebooks?Dothetranslationcoursebookspublishedafter1999meetthelearners?practicalneeds?Whatarethefeaturesintheirtheoreticalconstructioncomparedwiththosepublishedbefore1999?Withthesequestionsinmind,theauthormadeareviewofCNKIChinesekeyp
