I III Abstract Confucianism is the core component of Chinese traditional culture ideology, which has a profound impact on the history of China for more than 2000 years since its creation. Therefore, it is important for us to have an in-depth study on Confucianism and analyze the reason why Confucianism became the dominant ideology in the ideological field in feudal society of China. It will also affect our todays construction deeply. This paper includes the following chapters: Introduction: Discussing the reason for writing the paper and analyzing the present study conditions and the shortcomings in Confucianism study. This section also briefly describes Gramsci’s cultural hegemony theory and uses the theory to analyze the status of Confucianism and introduces several concepts such as Confucianism and ideology briefly. ChapterⅠ: Analyzing Confucianism by using Gramsci’s cultural hegemony and showing that Confucianism contains both the ruling class consciousness and the public consciousness of the ruled class. In general, Confucianism syncretizes the interests of the ruling class and the ruled class. This section also briefly introduces Dong Zhongshu’s Confucianism thought. He was a key character in the course of Confucianism establishing its status. Chapter II: In order to ensure Confucian cultural hegemony status the ruling class of the Western Han Dynasty made great efforts: including four aspects: controlling the Confucian intellectuals; electing officers with Confucianism standard; affecting education with Confucianism; and Confucianism-based legal system. Chapter III: Using some examples to analyze the effect which Confucian cultural hegemony has upon the ruling class and the ruled class during and after the course of its establishment of the Confucian cultural hegemony.
