THERESEARCHONTHEBODYFIGUREOFMIDDLE-AGEDMALESAGED30-40INSHANGHAIDISTRICTANDTHEDEVELOPMENTOFTHERMOPANTSPATTERNSABSTRACTInwinter,thermopantsaremajorgarmentstoprotectpeopleagainstcoldweather.People’sdemandsforthermopantsincreasewiththedevelopmentofthetimes.Inordertomeettherequirementsofbothcomfortandaesthetics,thestudiesofpatternsregardingthebestclothingfitnessshouldbefirstlytakenintoconsideration.ThisresearchisacollaborativeprojectwithWacoalCorp.,whocalledfortheadjustmentoftheirpatternstofitthebodyfeatureof30-40yearsoldmalecustomersinShanghaiDistrict.Therefore,theresearchstartedwiththecollectionofhumanfiguredataandthestudyofphysiques,andfollowedbytheimprovementofpatterns.Fivemainstudyaspectsareasfollows:Aself-designedquestionnairesurveyof230meninShanghaiDistrictshowedthatthemajorityofmalecustomersworethermopantsinwinter,andwerewillingtotrynewproductsfromnewbrands.Mostconsumersprefermedium-waistedfitthermopantswithsimplifiedpatterns,andshowpreferenceforfabricsofwhichtheelasticityperformanceslightlyhigherthanmedium－elasticfabrics.Cotton,modalandbamboofibermaterialsarehighlypopular.Inthemeanwhile,fitnessproblemsofexistingproductsreflectinpants’length,crotcharea,thighareaandwaist-buttocksarea;andcrotcharea,buttocksareaandkneeareasduringmovement.Humanbodyfiguredatawerecollectedbymeansofbothmanualmeasurementand3Dbodyscanning.18bodypartson57subjectsweremeasuredmanually.Atotalof94threedimensionalbodymodelswerebuiltbasedonscanningsamples,and48bodypartswerepreciselymeasuredviathree-dimensionalmeasurementsoftware.AccordingtotheanalysisresultsofSPSS,theaveragesomatotypeofmiddle-agedmalesinShanghaiisalittleplump,whichcomesbetweenTypeBandTypeCundernationalstandards;therearepositivecorrelationbetweenaltitudedataandbodyheight,andpositivecorrelationbetweengirthdataandwaistline.OnthebasisofFactorAnalysis,thecomponentsofthefiveclasses,girth,height,waistwidth,horizontaldistance,andcrotchlengthwereobtained.OnthebasisofReturnAnalysis,equationswithoneortwovariablesregardingthemeasuresofdiffe
